A new kind of piano store…

Welcome to Brigham’s Piano Shop!

Have you ever considered buying from a piano technician rather than a piano salesman?

This is a photo I recently took of Brigham in his piano shop, his second home.  Luckily, for the kids and me, it’s located in our garage and we are always welcome to visit, especially if we are helping out.

We love that our business has expanded to now include piano sales, in a way that matches our current economy and the needs of our many clients.  Selling from the home front rather than a store front allows us to avoid the monumental costs associated with maintaining the overhead of a commercial location.  Our prices excite us because we are able to beat the local market during a time when people are looking for extraordinary deals as they battle fears of a double dip recession.

So… look no further, support your local mom and pop shop.  Piano shop that is, of course and see what’s different about Brigham’s Piano Service-a new kind of piano store!

When you buy from a technician, you will notice a difference.

Another happy musician…

This piano was sold so fast that it didn’t even make it onto our website before being sold!  They came and bought it while the keys were out being completely recovered.  With complete confidence in Brigham’s unique system to refurbishing uprights, quality controls and attention to detail… they had no doubts that it would sound great once the keys were back in.  (and yes, they were thrilled with the final product when it was delivered to their home in Salt Lake City).

Brigham is a new dealer for-Safety Ease Lid Assist!

Product Pipeline: The Safety-Ease Lid Assist

From Musical Merchandise Review (click the link above for entire article)
(11/30/2009)
Finally! Something new and exciting in Piano Technology!

Product Pipeline: The Safety-Ease Lid AssistThe Safety-Ease Lid Assist is a device that makes opening and closing the grand piano’s lid far safer and easier. It’s so easy even a child can raise and lower the lid on a 6 ft grand!

Piano technician and retailer Danny Geoghegan invented the Safety-Ease Lid Assist after an elderly customer in his store dropped a grand piano lid on her hand seriously injuring her fingers. This started Danny thinking “We have a slow close fall-board, why hasn’t something similar been done for the grand piano lid?” And so his quest began. As he looked further into the situation he saw that since 1910 many patents with a similar aim had been applied for (and a few granted) but never to his knowledge put into production.

After assessing the benefits and weaknesses of the previous ideas he realized that technology had just recently reached the point to bring this dream into fruition. The Safety-Ease Lid Assist was born! After years of trail and error, including computer design and engineering, Danny G brought a prototype to last years NAMM show with great anticipation. The prototype took the NAMM show audience by storm with many dealers asking when it would be in production and ready to ship. That time is NOW.

The Safety-Ease Lid Assist does not require any drilling or alteration of the piano. Its ingenious design allows the device to slip on and off the instrument quickly and easily.

The product is being sold through exclusive dealerships (no internet) and must be installed by the authorized dealer in each market. Here’s your opportunity to offer that something special that just might make the difference between your company getting the deal or your competition.

Hailun Innovation #4-Performance Plus Action

Performance Plus Action

Hailun developed its proprietary action. It includes several parts that are imported from Europe and assembled in China and include reinforced German felt hammers, wood parts made of hornbeam, and an aluminum with a maple core action rail. The action is geared at professional users and aims at providing maximum performance for the pianist.

Hailun Innovation #3-Cold Pressed Hammerheads

One of the most important parts of the piano is the hammerhead. Recent studies by several leading felt and hammerhead makers has revealed why the hammerheads used by piano factories in the nineteen twenties seemed to be superior to modern, mass produced hammerheads. Discerning piano builders and even pianists have long recognized the value of these hammerheads when found in good condition. Modern mass production relies on the use of heat during the compression process to facilitate that glue hardens faster. However, this process has adverse effects on the elasticity of the felt structure. Today, even makers of highest quality instruments rely on technicians in the field to prepare pianos (i.e. enhance their sound) by treating such hammers with chemicals.

The cold-pressed hammer production process does not alter the microstructure of the felt and allows for a hammerhead that is much more elastic. It ensures much higher tension on the surface of the hammerhead and provides the the ideal basis for optimal intonation.

Hailun Innovation #2-PAS Keybed System

PAS Keybed System For Upright Pianos (Permanency Accuracy Stability)

In 2007 Hailun Piano Co. wanted to further increase the quality level and guarantee of longevity of its upright pianos. Performance upright pianos can be sensitive to temporary oscillations of humidity and temperature, and the effects can be minor shifts of the piano action (i.e. the mechanism that connects the keys to the hammerhead). Professional pianists are sensitive to such minor shifts and can sometimes detect them. Over time it is also possible for the wood to shift its form and cause a permanent change in the action. In order to ensure that the many combining parts that make up the action of an upright piano maintain a stable platfo, Hailun Piano Company invented the Permanency- Accuracy- Stability Keybed System (PAS). This is an aluminum keybed structure that allows the piano action to be resistant to external influences and ensures that the instrument can be used for many years without concern.

Hailun Innovation #1-Hybrid Performance Pianos

As we begin selling the Hailun USA brand, we are going to highlight some of it’s outstanding features and innovations on our blog.  Here is the first of 4 posts in a series of Hailun innovations and points of interest.

Stephen Paulello

Over the years Hailun Piano Co. has made it a practice to engage piano technology authorities from Europe and the United States and combine their experience and know-how with the factory’s dedicated and skilled craftsmen and workers. The goal was to offer to pianists highest quality instruments that customers could otherwise only enjoy by acquiring instruments that were built in Europe. These hybrid pianos rely not only on the cost advantage currently attainable in China, but on a highly skilled team of local engineers and workers, and a commitment to quality to present themselves as a real alternative of instruments several times their price. At their best they offer a sound, consistency, and quality mostly available from piano makers several times the cost of a Hailun.

The most recent example is the work of Mr. Stephen Paulello. Stephen Paulello is both a concert pianist, who has won numerous international piano competitions, and also a university professor for piano and chamber music. He completed his education as a piano technician with Bechstein and Steinway & Sons and was in charge of concert service for Bechstein in Paris. After a period in Germany spent developing his piano building skills, he started designing and building his own upright and grand pianos. Commenting on his own designs, he says: ‘I wanted to do something different, something new to develop an alternative for pianists’. Indeed, in each and every respect he has succeeded. His experience was gained from 28 years of personal research into the various aspects of piano building. He learned by restoring, repairing and improving upright and grand pianos, as well as through optimization of the strings and actions.Stephen Paulello’s patents and grand piano designs have won numerous awards, including a BA from the French Ministry for Culture. He is also responsible for the training and education of piano technicians in France, including the master associations AFARP & ITEMM. In order to meet Mr. Paulello’s requirements the factory invested in larger CNC machines and with the help of his colleague Claire Pichet, a specialized CAD and robotics engineer, ensured that his designs were properly implemented. The result was the new model Hailun 218 semi-concert grand. Numerous pianists and piano builders already appreciate the instrument. Several institutions have already procured a Hailun 218 for their performance venues.
