About Brigham
So this is us having a little “too much fun” at the National Convention this summer. One of the women in the national office, suggested that we make Joshie his own name tag since he was such a little mascot of the convention. As she got to printing it, she had options such as “affiliate member”, “spouse”, “RPT” (Registered Piano Technician), “vendor”, etc. She laughed and said that he didn’t fit any of them but that she thought that “WEE-PT” was closest to “RPT” like his dad and so she would put that on his name tag. So for the rest of the convention, Joshua entertained everyone and solicited quite a few comments with his “WeePT” name tag.
Here’s a video of him getting his “first tuning hammer” in the vendor hall. He was a good traveling companion!!

My hammer is a significant part of my daily work so I thought it deserved a little notice among all of the other posts. The first thing a new tuner buys to get started is a tuning hammer. I’ve been through many of them over the past 15 years and the one shown above is my current companion. I spend all day with my tuning hammer. It’s kind of my right hand man-literally.
This tuning hammer, I got for free from another technician as a white elephant gift at the yearly Piano Technician’s Guild Christmas Party. He thought it was useless and so he was giving it away as a joke. I looked at this fine hammer with different eyes though. I fixed the broken neck piece that it had it and it’s been a wonderful tool ever since.
I still have my old tuning hammers, but I like the ball, the shape and the feel of this one. So, there you have it… the simple story of my current tuning hammer.

Welcome to Brigham’s Piano Shop!
Have you ever considered buying from a piano technician rather than a piano salesman?
This is a photo I recently took of Brigham in his piano shop, his second home. Luckily, for the kids and me, it’s located in our garage and we are always welcome to visit, especially if we are helping out.
We love that our business has expanded to now include piano sales, in a way that matches our current economy and the needs of our many clients. Selling from the home front rather than a store front allows us to avoid the monumental costs associated with maintaining the overhead of a commercial location. Our prices excite us because we are able to beat the local market during a time when people are looking for extraordinary deals as they battle fears of a double dip recession.
So… look no further, support your local mom and pop shop. Piano shop that is, of course and see what’s different about Brigham’s Piano Service-a new kind of piano store!
When you buy from a technician, you will notice a difference.

I captured this little moment when Brigham had the Sojin Grand taken apart for cleaning. Brig Jr. is his CONSTANT shadow and cries each day when dad has to go “workin’ -tunin’”. The little guy is in daddy heaven when working at home is on the schedule. Briggy Jr. is standing in the key bed where the keys had been removed for servicing this piano. He had his own cloth and q-tips just like dad and was “helpin’”! So if you snatch up this deal of a grand at only $3490, know that you got a two for one deal when it came to workers pouring over this piano’s every detail to bring it it’s maximum playing ability! Call me to come have a look at it… Karmel, 801.427.9293.

Today is our 10 year anniversary!
We had so much fun together, “on vacation”, at the national Piano Technicians Guild Convention in Vegas. Here we are at the convention with our little helper, Joshua. He was the attention grabber everywhere we went!
There is a special bond between husband and wife who are also business partners. Luckily, for us, we can’t get enough of each other and love to talk business as much as all other topics. I envision us doing shop work together well into our 80′s listening to great audio books.
I captured the above photo while following Brigham to help him deliver this piano that we sold a few weeks ago. He’s so romantic when he asks if I want to go on “a date” with him to deliver a piano. Though I love our piano dates, he takes me on great regular nights out as well.
The title of this post is framed and sits on the desk in our office. It comes from the Proclamation on the Family and holds special meaning for us.
Happy anniversary Brigham! I am looking forward to the dawn of a new decade with you!

Sorry folks… no! Brigham is just an “acoustic-piano-man”! He gigs and plays on plenty of digital and electric keyboards, but work on them he does not. Above is a quick snap shot I captured of him entertaining a crowd at Comedy Sports recently when we attended a birthday party there.

We have been so grateful to have Cheryl Norman, of American Fork, teach our children piano. As a piano tuner, Brigham has the opportunity to meet and visit with many musicians and music teachers. After years and years of tuning Cheryl’s piano, he selected her to teach our children. Her devotion to music and teaching is exceptional! Thank you Cheryl for whatever it is you do at lessons that makes our children happy to return to your home each week and quickly progressing through their levels.

The field of Piano technology is an unregulated trade. Therefore the Piano Technicians Guild has set its own standards of quality for piano technicians. The Guild has two types of members: Registered Piano Technicians (Brigham) and Associates. Associate membership is open to anyone with a “professional or avocational interest in piano technology.” On the other hand, the title of “Registered Piano Technician” must be earned by passing a series of examinations. Here is a video of Brigham with Allan L. Gilreath , RPT and National President of the Piano Technicians Guild. He explains why it is essential and beneficial to only allow a Registered Piano Technician to work on your piano.

May we recommend you read this information about RPT’s before price shopping and going with the cheapest option. We know that our customers value quality and refer us regularly without hesitation! Have the courage to shop around for quality, not just for price!
