Some Music From Our NAMM Trip

We loved attending NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants Convention in Anaheim, CA) recently and captured these videos to share with our viewers.  We went to NAMM seeking the latest and greatest in the piano world of music, but with nearly 100,000 musicians, suppliers and vendors in attendance, we got much more that we anticipated!  The entertainment was constant and varied!  Here are two very different samples we enjoyed, a Sunday morning gospel choir and a smokey rock concert.

Music Wrapped in Love or Love Wrapped in Music?

The piano is such a perfect place to wrap your arms around a loved one and enjoy the magic of music.  When Brigham and Abby played the final duet for Abby’s recent solo recital, Brig’s mom commented, “I don’t know if that is music wrapped in love or love wrapped in music… but either way it’s beautiful!”  We hope your Valentine’s Day is wrapped in music and filled with love.

Here is the video of Abby and Brigham’s recent duet.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Brigham & Karmel Larson, Brigham’s Piano Shop

PS-Our first date was partially spent side by side on a piano bench.  How could I not have married him when I heard how well he played.  Happy Valentine’s Day!

A day in the shop…

I captured this short video the other day to give a view of daily happenings at our shop. Below the video is a quick summary for those who don’t have 2 minutes for the video (though I think it’s much more fun to see the action)!

  • See David and Austin using the automatic crane lift to lower the new pianos out of the semi and bring them into the shop
  • Listen and watch as the player specialist works on the player system of an older upright that Brigham was contracted to fully refurbish
  • Sweet 3 year old Briggy Jr. lets us know that this is “his shop” not dad’s! (of course… it’s Brigham’s shop and he’s Brigham Jr.–makes sense)
  • Tim does action prep on an upright being refurbished
  • Brigham opens up the box of our newly delivered Hailun Action model delivered with our new pianos.

Random Piano News from CNN….

Added On January 25, 2011

Of course, since it was a piano… this CNN video caught my eye:

A grand piano weighing about 650 pounds mysteriously appears on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay, Florida.

3 year old conducting Beethoven’s 5th Symphony

Our piano teacher, Cheryl Norman, just sent us the following video with these suggestions/assignments for our 3 kids in lessons:

Listen to Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, then attend a symphony
concert.    We will all do some conducting in Masterclasses in the coming months!

I love how she incorporates so much into her piano teaching to be well balanced and inclusive of all aspects of music.  This video is worth watching to the end.  It’s amazing…

The “Banana Piana”

The only thing to do with a yellow piano is to give it to kids!

So that’s exactly what we did with this one that we affectionately call the “Banana Piana”.  After Brigham took it through the checklist process, he donated it to our son, Thayne’s, kindergarten classroom at Quail Run Primary School.  They were thrilled to receive a piano and we were thrilled that the “Banana Piana” had a happy home somewhere other than our “Featured Pianos” page.

Some Friday Fun…

Brigham photoshopped this photo of himself awhile back for some quick laughs.  Little did he know that his wife would find it and post it to his piano blog years later.   Most people envision an older gentleman arriving to tune their piano… so I think we should replace all of his head shots on our site, blog and marketing with this balding photo!

If you agree, text Brigham at 801-830-0011 and tell him you like his bald look (and his blog)!

My Favorite Norman Rockwell Painting

Doesn’t this painting  just warm your heart?  I can so relate to it on so many levels!  I don’t tune pianos in a suit, however, many other aspects are certainly accurate!  Frequently, I have children present with insatiable curiosity as to what I am doing.  The music desk is on the floor and the tools get scattered around my feet.

We hope to have this print framed in our front piano room of our home soon.  I love my job!  -Brigham

Daddy the “RPT” with his little “Wee PT”

So this is us having a little “too much fun” at the National Convention this summer.  One of the women in the national office, suggested that we make Joshie his own name tag since he was such a little mascot of the convention.  As she got to printing it, she had options such as “affiliate member”, “spouse”, “RPT” (Registered Piano Technician), “vendor”, etc.  She laughed and said that he didn’t fit any of them but that she thought that “WEE-PT” was closest to “RPT” like his dad and so she would put that on his name tag.  So for the rest of the convention, Joshua entertained everyone and solicited quite a few comments with his “WeePT” name tag.

Here’s a video of him getting his “first tuning hammer” in the vendor hall.  He was a good traveling companion!!
